Romantic partners are always seeking out new and exciting ways of expressing their love. And studying the five love languages will give you ideas of how to most effectively express your love for your partner.

Some people have greater need for spending one-on-one-time with their partners, and these people best understand love expressed in the love language called quality time.

If your partner seems lonely and disconnected from you when life crowds out time for the two of you, his love language may be quality time. If she is always begging for date nights, suggesting activities for just the two of you or slipping away from group activities to be by your side, then she may truly need focused time with only you in order to feel loved.

Focused and intentional time spent together can help partners connect deeply on a regular basis. Some may think that spending focused time with a partner is out of reach for those on tight budgets.

After all, romantic dinner dates, babysitters and weekends away are not cheap.

However, one key point to remember is that a partner who needs focused time likely cares little about where that time takes place. These types of people are just as satisfied to have a cup of coffee with their loved one as they are going to an expensive restaurant for dinner.

A daily walk around the block, 30 minutes chatting on the couch or an hour sitting in a porch swing together are all free ways of spending time with your partner.

3 Inexpensive Ways to Spend Quality Time Together

If money is tight, you may struggle to find interesting and affordable date ideas. But with some creativity and diligence, you can find plenty of fun things to do with your partner that do not cost much money. And here are a few creative date ideas to get you started:

1. Local Colleges

If a university or community college is in your area, you have a potential source of plenty of low-cost date options. If you love music and art, you will likely be able to attend student concerts and art exhibits for relatively little cost.

You can also watch many college-level sporting events for less money than the cost of tickets to a professional sporting event. Even if tickets to a college football game are not in the budget, you may be interested in learning about a new, unfamiliar sport such as fencing or lacrosse.

2. Community Organizations

Churches and clubs are another potential source for budget-friendly date ideas. Especially around Easter and Christmas, many churches and community organizations create special musical evenings, concerts and plays.

Throughout the year, churches, clubs and other organizations may also host interesting lectures and meetings.

Look in your local paper to find out what your community has to offer.

3. Parks and Recreation

Take advantage of local state and national park systems in your area. Even if you cannot afford an overnight cabin, leave the kids with Grandma and spend an entire day hiking, fishing and swimming at a state park.

Many cities also provide opportunities to enjoy the arts in city parks. These offerings may feature “Shakespeare in the Park” or other dramatic and musical performances that are offered completely for free.

Child Care On the Cheap – What About the Kids?

Now that you have some inexpensive date ideas, you still may wonder how you can afford to have a date, since paying a babysitter can be quite costly. The cheapest way to find date night child-care is to leave your children with grandparents or other relatives.

Alternately, you can offer to trade childcare with another trusted couple who may have children close in age to your own. Perhaps two Fridays a month you and your partner can go out, leaving your children with this couple. On alternate Fridays you will care for the other couple’s children.

Another way of finding inexpensive childcare is to go out later in the evening after the children are in bed. You may be able to offer a teen less money for this responsibility.

After all, the sitter will likely have little work to do, but will simply need to be available if a child wakes.

Although figuring out how to spend quality time with your partner can be challenging when money is tight, it will be worth it. Quality time is one of the five love languages that can seem hard to express when you have money troubles, but make your partner’s need for feeling and understanding love a priority.

Get creative, and your partner will begin to understand exactly how deeply you care.
